A singer, rapper, saxophonist, producer, and composer Anant Maitra aka Ananto, likes to define his story as ‘unmatched.’ The 25-year-old artist from Ohio, United States grew up listening to classic Bollywood songs from the 50s, 60s, and 70s primarily through his father who used to play his records at home. He learnt how to play the saxophone in his school band when he was just 10 years old while and played at small community gatherings and events, while still playing the American music he learned back in his band. As the years flew by, this dynamic artist got more fluent with the saxophone and quit his school band to pursue his solo journey as an artist
When the artist also got introduced to rap along this course, he ventured out to create his rap group called ‘Crew Entertainment.’ He even played the saxophone for various bands across the city of Columbus. Around this time, he started releasing singles under the name ‘Ananto’ which is his Bengali-rooted name. “I chose this name because it gives me a sense of individualism but also something to tie myself back to my roots,” Ananto added. He released his first album in 2020 called ‘Sovereign State’ 2020. The artist also has his own RNB/Hip hop group called ’72 Spectrum’ which accompanies him when he performs live.
‘Yeah That’s Her,’ his latest song is his first single off of his upcoming album ‘Clocked Out.’ It is a mixture of RNB, pop, and Hip hop with some saxophone to add a little bit of sensuality to the song. When asked to talk about the song, he said, “The lyrics paint the picture of a girl I used to fancy back a few years ago, someone who years later became a very influential part of my music and life.”
The song was written by Ananto in 2019 and recorded in 2021. Released on May 21st, ‘Yeah That’s Her’ took a year to record and mix. The entire track was recorded in the bedroom of his apartment in Colombo’s where he has his studio.
Ananto’s next song ‘Selfless reflection’ is set to release in the first week of September. He is also prepping to release his new album which according to him encompasses some of his best work yet. “I am very excited to share this music with the world,” he said. We too are excited to hear them.
