Bann Chakraborty’s latest release ‘Shaayad’ is all about the impermanence of all life

Bann Chakraborty is one of India’s most recognized music composers, writing the score for advertising campaigns with brands like Tata Tea, Colgate and Britannia. He received a nomination for “Best Upcoming Music Director” at the 5th Mirchi Awards in 2013 for the song “Mar Jayian” from the feature film “Vicky Donor” directed by Shoojit Sircar. He composed successful songs such as “Le Chal Mujhey” and “Khoney De” for his second project NH10 directed by Navdeep Singh. His third feature film is scheduled to be released in 2022, and he is currently working on more background scores and original music in between gigs.

Bann is a solo artist who does the singing, composing and production of all his music. He also knows many session artists and singers who help him contribute to certain songs and projects he is working on. Depending on what kind of song it is or what type of album or performance the musician is releasing, he nitpicks his team of session artists for the job.

His latest track “Shaayad” was released on June 10, 2022. In his words, he told us “Shaayad is about the impermanence of all life and how we can only focus on the journey rather than the destination”. He wrote the track and contacted Saibal Basu to play the guitars. Siddharth Basrur was featured on this track and his vocals were recorded at his own studio. Bann told us “We used our home studios to record guitars, create percussion and also programmed a few musical notes here and there”.

He is influenced by artists all over the world such as Pharell Williams, Gorillaz. Disclosure, Chemical Brothers, and Soundgarden being some of his biggest inspirations. According to Bann, the works of Underworld, George Michael and Björk stay with him even in his dreams! We all know how much we love Rafi’s lyrics right? Well, he loves them too. He is inspired by R.D. Burman, Salil Chaudhury, S.D. Burman to name a few.

Hoping his next track and his next film are a huge success and that he will give us more music that we can sing in our sleep too.
