Nicky Neeckeey tells us to let her go in his new song ‘Safar’

On some days, all you need to soothe your body and mind is the sound of an acoustic guitar and a soulful voice to go along with it. Well, 27-year old Nikhil Nandeshwar aka Nicky Neeckeey from Nagpur could be one of your bets on days like that. He started off at the age of 17, playing the drums and slowly transitioned to learning the guitar. Once he got the hang of it, he began singing and recording covers. Today, he writes his own songs and has released 6 singles until now. He takes inspiration for his work from groups like The Lumineers and Mumford & Sons.

His latest single, ‘Safar’ was released on January 8, 2021. The song talks about the struggle of parting ways with someone you love. It emphasizes on the fact that many a times, holding on to something can do more harm than good, no matter how much you want it. The track features a beautiful intertwining of guitar strums and notes on the keys. In a lot of ways, it reminds me of James Bay and his calm, mellow vibe. Maybe it’s not a coincidence that Nikhil’s stage persona looks a lot like him. The artwork has been created by Anusha Gaur.

The song was recorded in about a month’s time at Nikhil’s home studio. He works as an IT recruiter by night and usually writes music during his free time in the day. His favourite quote is by Steve Jobs – “If today was my last day on earth would I want to do what I’m about to do today?” When we asked him who he’d like to collaborate with, he said in his wildest dreams, it would have to be Passenger or Ed Sheeran.
