An artist inspired by the styles of Adele, Ariana Grande, and Dua Lipa, Shweta Srivastava is a musician who was born in Lucknow and is currently based in Mumbai.
A self-taught singer for about 14 years now, she started training with vocal coach Shannon Donald where she gained the momentum and drive to begin her journey as a songwriter as well. It was during this journey that the 29-year-old artist met music producer Himonshu Parikh at a contest and the two have embarked on this path ever since.
‘Saturn’, the first ever song that was written by the artist, was released on the 1st of September this year. Falling under the genre of pop and electronic, the track is an ode on relationships, especially the ones that challenge who we are. It is on those relationships that feel as ethereal as experiencing the soothing touch of the moon and stars themselves but proving to be illusory. The title of the song is significant as it serves as a metaphor for a wedding ring – as Saturn is the ringed planet- that symbolizes commitment.
Along with Shweta’s strong and melodic vocals, Himonshu creates a warm and ambient vibe that complements the song’s energy and soulful spirit, along with powerful lyrics. The production skillfully captures the emotional highs and lows so smoothly that it leaves the listener feeling like they’re floating through outer space.
The track was recorded at Studio 504 in Mumbai and took two sessions totaling six hours, equally split between recording the lead and the harmonies. Apart from Shweta and Himonshu, the mix and master engineer behind the release is Sidhant Shirodkar and Hari Om Verma, an illustrator who made the album art.
Eager to collaborate with icons such as AR Rehman, Adele, and Bruno Mars in the future, Shweta is an artist who swears the quote “The more you sweat in peace, the less you bleed at war” which ties to the larger theme of her latest release. Along with Himonshu, she looks forward to releasing a stripped-down, emotional acoustic version of ‘Saturn’ that the two privately call ‘SadTurn’.
