Shanks takes his listeners on a journey of past experiences through his latest ‘Khoya Hun’

A quote by Paramhansa Yogananda – “Live quietly in the moment and see the beauty of all before you. The future will take care of itself,” is something that this artist solo artist lives by. A developer by the day and a musician in the evening, Shashank Yadav, who goes by the name Shanks, has been singing for a few years now. The 25-year-old artist was born in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh and is currently living in Delhi. Growing up listening to rock, acoustic, and old Bollywood, most of Shanks’ ideas come from that. He defines them as songs that are “memorable melodies” having “good arrangement.” Some of his other influences include Snow Patrol, Adele, Green Day and One Republic. “From my military upbringing, spiritual enlightenment, then becoming a corporate software engineer, those have all influenced my songwriting, giving me a perspective to appreciate the simpler things in life,” Shanks adds.

It was in his engineering days that he discovered his singing talent. While he was exploring and giving performances he realized he had “a knack for creating melodies.” He aims for simplicity and relatability while creating his songs. A year back, he decided to start making his songs. ‘Dil Bechara,’ his debut album is to be released soon. A tale of a heart in love and the cycle of emotions we go through, it is scheduled to release in the second half of 2022.

‘Khoya Hun,’ his latest release, is the first song of his debut album. It is also the fourth song he has ever written. Released on 1st July 2022, the song is about feelings of sorrow and acceptance after losing something extremely close to you. Musically, the song creates a space preparing the listener to go on a journey of past experiences. Lyrically, the song aims to deeply connect with the listener. The song is a mix of indie and acoustic rock and was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Mukul from Ferris Wheel Studios.

We can’t wait for the rest of the songs in his debut album to be released.
