Today, we’re at the peak of anguish with the way the situation in India has turned out in the past two months. Many of us have lost loved ones, and others just can’t deal with the social alienation. A lot of times, this drives some to a point where they struggle to find meaning in their lives. Well, 19-year-old Shezhan Mehta from Surat is no stranger to this pain and struggle. He is a budding Indie rock artist and has Nandish Chorawala (lead guitar), Sagar Tank (bass), and Lucky Sharma (rhythm guitar, production) backing him up on this adventure.
His latest single ‘Thehra Yahan’ was released on April 18, 2021. It’s a rather gloomy yet upbeat song which talks about grief and suicide. Through the song, he tries to embody a strained relationship between a father and son. The son in the story struggles to live a happy life, and with all that he goes through, he decides to end his life. Burdened with grief, the father also loses his sense of orientation and longs to leave this world in the state of confusion that he is. While suicide is a still taboo topic in India, looked down upon by society, Shehzan brings it into the limelight.
While the song has great enthusiastic beats and notes throughout, the underlying meaning of the song, we believe to show how hard grief is to deal with. Furthermore, it accentuates the feelings and emotions a parent goes through when their own child decides that he cannot take it anymore. This is the biggest argument most make against suicide. Today, if you are having suicidal thoughts, reach out to a loved one and confide in them, it may not be too late! The song was recorded at Lucky Sharma’s studio over a period of 3-4 months.
