Sparsh Shikhar’s new album “Nam” has something for everyone

Sparsh Shikhar Sinha was born and raised in Patna, Bihar. He grew his musical skills in the years he spent in Mumbai. He later moved to Delhi and has been working out of there for the last 8 years. He was gifted his first guitar at the age of 14 and he didn’t take any formal training for the instrument but learned how to play via the Internet. During his learning phase, he recalls being forced to practice in the bathroom as everyone at home got irritated with his loud strumming of an untuned guitar. It took him 3 months to get a hold of the basics and started with covers. It’s been 3 years since he started writing his own music. He creates tunes and pens-down lyrics with the help of the various encounters he has had with some amusing aspects of life. He has also performed at stages such as The Yellow Festival.

Sparsh’s latest album “Nam” released on 30th April 2021 is a crowd-funded album consisting of 6 vividly different tracks. The album is an outlet of his inner self to the world. Every track from the album has a notion of its own to tell, but the whole album, when

heard in an order starting & ending with the songs ‘Kashmakash’ & ‘Qissa’ respectively, narrates the entire story of an individual’s life from the point of being confused and sulked up to the point of introspecting and accepting one’s true identity. Being a perfectionist he took more than a year to record the album even though it was written by March of 2020. Everyone thought the album was never going to be released and was only made for Instagram Lives and Stories. Little did they know that he had been working on it at The Backyard Studio in Delhi and had spent weeks with the Mastering Engineer trying to get everything perfect. It had gotten to a point where the engineer started sending out wav tracks to him with them being named as ‘ab ek aur edit nahi karunga.wav’.

He and his friends started working on the arrangement for the album in January 2021. They started recording the album in the last week of January and were able to complete all the recordings by the first week of March. The mixing of the album took another 3 weeks. One word which perfectly describes his songwriting is “peculiar”. “I write songs about myself, my experiences, and emotions being felt differently by different individuals at different points in time. I weave songs to be myself.” Says the singer. He aspires to collaborate with Shubhank Sharma and Ali Sethi in the future.
